Hydra Crystal for Beginners

IMPORTANT: BEFORE TREATING YOUR POND,
READ THE INFORMATION SHEET SUPPLIED WITH YOUR PRODUCT!

Calculate the number of gallons in your pond to insure you use the correct dosage amount. Do this with the formula:

Gallons = Length x Width x Depth x 7.48

For example, if your pool is 6 feet long, 3 feet wide, and 2 feet deep, then 6 x 3 x 2 x 7.48 = 270 gallons. Treat that as a 300 gallon pond with 3 full blue scoops.

Do a jar test before treating your pond .Take a sample of water from your pond into a clear glass. Add a pinch of Hydra Crystal (as in pinch of salt) to glass and stir with spoon. The water will initially go cloudy then you will start to see clumps forming as it pulls the green algae out of the water (within 30 minutes). Leave overnight and depending on product used you should be left either with a fine sediment at the bottom of the glass or algae floating on the surface with the remainder of the water crystal clear. If for any reason the above does not happen, please speak to our Technical Helpline on 423-217-1332 before using the product

Treat your pond in late morning to early afternoon.

Make a slurry by taking a small container of your pond water and mixing your dose of Hydra Crystal thoroughly in the container. Do not use tap water.

Pour your crystal dosage in to the pond, mixing it thoroughly through out the pond.

Dip out a clean jar full of your treated pond water and set it aside. What happens to the water in the jar represents what is happening in your pond.

The water in the pond will begin to turn brownish. This is the Hydra Crystal attaching itself to the algae, and clumping together. These clumps will be filtered out by your filter system if you have one, or will settle to the bottom if you don't have a filter. The denser the filter media (such as our Hydra Pond Filter Blanket), the quicker the water will clear.

After one hour, check your filter and clean it. You must keep your filters clean to remove the brown from your water. After a few hours, check your jar of pond water. It should begin to clear from the top down, with the sediment beginning to appear in the bottom of the jar.

There are only two reasons your pond doesn't clear. Either your dosage was too small, or you are not filtering out the dead algae.

Residual chemicals, including salts may interfere with the Hydra Crystal’s clearing process. To determine if prior treatments will be a factor in your pond, please use the jar test with a sample of our product before treating your pond. Request Sample here.

If the water in the jar has stayed green, your dose of Hydra Crystal was too small. You must recalculate the dosage required and wait for 48 hours to retreat the pond and start over.

If the brown water in the jar clears up, but your pond remains brown, then the dead algae has not been filtered out. Continue to clean your filters and allow more time for your water to clear.
